Hyatts in concert at Old Courthouse

Fans and friends of Evelyn and Jerry Hyatt will be pleased to learn they are performing at the Old Courthouse on the Square on Friday, August 18. Evelyn and Jerry's performance is a part of the summer concerts presented at 7:00 in the old courtroom each Friday presented by the Union County Historical Society.

Evelyn and Jerry have performed as a team throughout the southeastern United States for the past twenty years. In north Georgia they have sung at churches, gospel singings, and festival venues, including the Georgia Mountain Fair.

Jerry grew up in the local community of Gumlog and has been playing the guitar since he was twelve years old. Sometimes he would entertain the other students on the long school bus rides. When he was enlisted in the Navy, he always found a band with which to play and, consequently, has literally performed all over the world.

Evelyn came from a family background of performers and singers. She is a native of White, Georgia, and that is where Evelyn and Jerry live today.

T o m m y Nation on mandolin and Ruth West on the bass usually accompany Jerry and Evelyn during their performances. Whether alone, or with accompaniment, Jerry's unique "finger-picking" method of playing guitar drives the song and carries the rhythm.

The Hyatts have done several recording projects and have CD's and audio cassette tapes available. They also have a CD of their most requested songs over the years.

There is no required admission charge to the summer concerts in the Old Courthouse on the Square. The concerts are presented by the Union County Historical Society as a public service and to keep alive the tradition of music in The Old Courthouse. The musicians donate their time and talents. Voluntary donations to the restoration fund are always welcomed and appreciated.
