Lions first annual old fashion July 4th success
What a great time everyone had at the Union County Lions Club first ever 'old fashion July 4th games and funtime that included the family from ages four years old through adults. Best of all, it was free!
Where did this great time take place? Why, right here in Blairsville at the beautiful Meeks Park. And a huge thanks go to the following: Union County Commissioner, Lamar Paris; Larry Garrett, Director of Parks and Recreation and the guys who marked off the race areas; Coca'Cola for the drinks; Appalachian Bank & Seasons Bank for use of tents; Keith & Olivia Bragg; Boy Scout, Andrew Brumley; the Union County Volunteer Fire Department for the cooling off spray of waters after the watermelon eating contest; the twenty-two Lions & nine family and friends who registered the contestants, directed the games, and ran the concession stand. A special thanks to Union County Lion Jack Levy, who first presented the idea for this July 4th event over a year ago, and his persistence that it would be the huge success that it was!
Did we leave anyone out? It was not our intention to do so. Oh, of course, we thank all those in attendance. Your participation is what made for the real success of this July 4th event. Thanks again to All! Remember the Lions Motto: We Serve.
