Fire Prevention Program
Pictured here is Brasstown FD firefighter Able Allen and the Brasstown Fire Department's Fire Prevention Office Demonstration project.
The project is designed to demonstrate how residential fire sprinklers work and teach operation of hand held fire extinguishers.
Residential fire sprinklers are saving lives and protecting property by keeping the fire small until you can escape or in many cases putting the fire out. The result is reduced loss of life and property from fire.
Recently, a new type of sprinkler system has ben developed for residences which offers an unprecedented level of fire safety. The cost of a sprinkler system in a new home is about $1.50 per square foot. The primary reason sprinklers are so powerful is that as soon as it activates, the sprinkler sprays water on the burning object and puts out or controls the fire.
Protect your family from fire by installing home fire
sprinklers. Also included in the demonstration is how to operate hand held fire extinguishers. Selection, operation and maintenance of your hand held extinguisher is demonstrated as well as actually putting a fire out using one. Brasstown FD offers classes to civilians on hand held extinguisher operations at the Fire Station in Brasstown. Contact your local FD for a class or if none is available, come to Brasstown for a Saturday morning class or schedule the demonstration at your department.

This project is funded by a combination of donations and grant support from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. It has been determined that if we can prevent more fires, the safety of firefighters is enhanced.
