Connect with The Dots at The Old Courthouse

The Friday summer concert series at Blairville's Old Courthouse on the Square continues on Friday, August 11 with The Dots. The members of this group have been fixtures in the folk music scene for more than 25 years. Prior to getting together as The Dots, in 1993, members played with traditional music groups such as: Stone Mountain Country Band, Playin' Possum, Chattahoochee Country Dance Band, the Unknown String Band and Peavine Creek.

In 1993 Doug Allison of Lawrenceville, John and Lynda Anderson of Decatur and Don and Laeta Smith of Dahlonega got together to play some polkas and The Dots was born. They later added the subtitle "A World Music Ensemble" after expanding their interest to the British Isles, Europe, Scandinavia and Latin America.

The Dots play mostly acoustic, mostly traditional and mostly dance music with a special interest on polkas. However if they can have fun with it they will play music of a dozen countries played on a stage full of instruments. Each of the Dots play several instruments and sometimes mix and match to get the desired effect. Clarinet, accordion, flutes, banjo, guitar, harmonica, bass, Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer and light percussion are standard equipment.

The Dots credits include several coffee houses in the Atlanta area, Strings 'n Things in Dahlonega, the Decatur Arts Festival, Stecoah Valley Summer Music Series, John C Campbell Folk School Fall Festival and Friday Night Concert series, Blairsville Courthouse Music Series, Vogel State Park Festival, Lawrenceville First Night Celebration, 10 years playing street music for the Atlanta Food Bank Hunger Walk and more.

The summer concerts are presented by the Union County Historical Society as a public service and to keep alive the tradition of music in The Old Courthouse. There is no required admission charge. The musicians donate their time and talents. Voluntary donations are always welcomed and appreciated.
