Flower Show dedicated to Virginia Palmer
By DOROTHY LEE
Sentinel Guest Writer

Virginia Palmer (right) was surprised when Flower Show Chairman Diann Nichols announced the show had been dedicated to her.
Hiawassee Garden Club's 55th annual Standard Flower Show Chairman Diann Nichols announced the dedication of the show to Virginia Palmer. This surprise announcement came at the judge's brunch on Wednesday, July 19, at Moschetto's in Young Harris.

Virginia is presently Laurel District Director and active in all areas of Garden Club work. She has been a member of Hiawassee Garden Club since 1960 and is a past president of the club. She served on the Deep South Region Board, and has served 20 years consecutively on The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. Board of Directors. Virginia has worked tirelessly each year helping to get the flower show ready for the viewing public. She has mentored, encouraged, and contributed greatly to the success of the show. It is a fitting tribute for the 2006 Standard Flower Show to be dedicated to Virginia Palmer.

Following the opening welcome by Hiawassee Garden Club President Marlene Arndt and dedication, Hospitality Chair Betty Grimes welcomed 24 judges and sixteen clerks to a bountiful brunch at Moschetto's before going to the fairgrounds to judge designs, horticulture and special exhibits. Then the Flower Show opened at 2 p.m.
