Georgia sales tax holiday Beginning Thursday, August 3, Georgians will enjoy a four day "holiday" weekend in which shoppers will be exempt from both state and local sales tax on specificed items. The tax break runs until midnight August 6. Items qualifying for the exemption include personal computers, articles of clothing, general school supplies, and energy efficient products. General school supplies are exempt up to $20 per item, clothing and footwear are exempt up to $100 per item, and personal computers and/or accessories are exempt up to $1,500 per item. A more detailed list of items can be obtained at the Georgia Department of Revenue website at www.dor.ga.gov/salestaxholiday_2006.
