A grateful daughter

To the Editor:

On July 14, 2006 at 6:15 a.m. I began reading "Instigating Logic" by Jared Putnam in the July 6 issue of your publication to my father. He always enjoyed reading our local paper and since he became ill, I would take one to him each time I visited. I had no idea what the article was about but wanted to keep his mind alert. He had been sleeping the entire day before and most of the night. He had opened his eyes and seemed aware of his surroundings. I kept close watch on him as the doctor stated he did not have much time left. It was my previledge to be not only the oldest of his five daughters, but to be alone with him as I read your opinions. He was an honorable man, an old marine fighter pilot and reservist, and a graduate

of UGA. A truer DAWG there never was. Your article brought tears to my eyes (admittedly I cried) as I have always been an old fashioned flag waver. I finished the last paragraph, and as I wiped the tears, my father took his last breath. I thank you for making the last words he heard, besides "I love you," is the appreciation we should have for the wonderful freedoms he fought for, and my son still fights for as a Staff Sargeant in the Corps.

I hope you will take a moment to look at the small page I made for him and feel you were a part of his final moments. "To Dad" www.avowtoremember. com/Dad/dad.html
