Dulcimers in Folk School Concert

Four nationally known proponents of the hammered and mountain dulcimers will be featured in a free concert at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. on Friday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Festival Barn,.but those attending are urged to park near Keith House or the Dining Hall and walk to the Festival Barn where there will be only a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available. In the barn there is hay bale seating, so audience members may wish to bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfort. Admission is free. The Folk School Craft Shop will be open until 7:30 p.m..
Guy George, Tull Glazener, Lois Hornbostel and Anne Lough all perform throughout the country on both hammered and mountain dulcimer two very different instruments that happen to share the same name.
Guy George, from Cleveland, Ohio, is a rhythmic, melodic hammered dulcimer player with a definite jazz influence to his playing style.
Guy comes from a background in jazz and performance on the saxophone, having studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston; honing his skills playing with many jazz influenced musicians in the Boston and New York area.

Tull Glazener, from Indiana, has been sharing the music of the mountain dulcimer since 1984. He enjoys arranging aires, waltzes, ragtime, traditional, old-time, contemporary, classical, and jazz for the mountain dulcimer. Tull performs on the influential recording, Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer, Vol. I and is a featured columnist for Dulcimer Player News.
Lois Hornbostel, from Cherokee, NC, is one of the country?s best known mountain dulcimer performers and teachers. Her repertoire includes oldtime fiddle tunes learned from North Carolina string bands, traditional Irish music gleaned from Irish jam sessions in New York City, as well as waltzes and two-steps learned from Cajun musicians in Louisiana. She is author of numerous mountain dulcimer books published and distributed internationally by Mel Bay Publications.
Anne Lough, from Clyde, NC, is a singer, performer, instructor and recording artist whose programs have delighted and inspired North Carolinians of all ages through the Mountain Arts Program and the North Carolina Arts Council Touring Artist Program. Anne performs on both the hammered and mountain dulcimers.
